Appointment of Non-Executive Directors

The Board of Charter plc is pleased to announce the appointment of Homi P R Mullan, James H M Bruce and Michael G Foster as non-executive directors of the Company with immediate effect.
Martin Taylor, Deputy Chairman and Neil Johnson will retire as non-executive directors at the conclusion of the next Annual General Meeting scheduled to be held in April 2002. John Neill, who joined the Board in 1994, will remain a non-executive director of the Company.
Homi P R Mullan will succeed Martin Taylor as Deputy Chairman of the Company following the conclusion of the Annual General Meeting.
Backgrounds:Homi P R Mullan (age 53)
Vice Chairman, Investment Banking, at JP Morgan and a non-executive of Ascot Underwriting Limited.
He has held senior executive appointments with BOC Group in India and London, Burmah-Castrol and Chase Manhattan where he was the Regional Executive for Central Europe, Middle East & Africa.
He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants who qualified with Coopers & Lybrand in London.
The Hon. James H M Bruce (age 52)
Non-executive director of Yes Television plc and Cadogan Group Limited.
He has held senior executive positions with Robert Fleming, London and Jardine Fleming, Hong Kong progressing to Head of Global Capital Markets and finally Head of Hong Kong and China.
He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants who qualified with Coopers & Lybrand in London.
Michael G Foster (age 48)
Executive Director, UK operations of RMC Group plc.
He has held senior executive positions including Deputy Head of Corporate Finance at GKN plc, Group Treasurer of Trafalgar House PLC, Chief Executive of the Metals Division of Trafalgar House PLC, and Executive Vice President, Engineering and Construction Division of the Kvaerner Group.
He gained an Honours Degree in Engineering and Electrical Sciences at Cambridge University, and after taking the Law Tripos practised as a Barrister for eight years.
